I just came across this on the Zoilus site. Down at the bottom of this post is a brief discussion about the ‘Yes We Can’ video (the ‘John took care of that’ link within the post goes to a nice discussion of the piece) and then a link to this YouTube video.
This is Steve Reich (a huge favorite of mine) talking about his music. He starts off talking about Coltrane and where and how the compelling pieces of the music reside. I was just talking with a friend of mine about Ornette Coleman (she’d just seen him) the other day so this felt nicely relevant. Further into the video Brian Eno comments on Reich with a visual metaphor that brought it back around, in my mind, to some of the things that James Turrell was talking about. So the whole thing made a nice swirl of recent connections and discussions.
I’m out looking at the rest of the Reich videos now…
